Curriculum Support – Reading

“Write to be understood. Speak to be heard. Read to grow.”

Lawrence Clark Powell

At Christ the King Catholic Primary Academy, reading is at the very heart of our curriculum.

We have daily reading lessons in which we develop children’s reading fluency and understanding. We use Echo Reading as a method to develop fluent readers. We look carefully at vocabulary and we read like ‘Book Detectives’ to find clues and evidence to support our ideas.

We share with our children a wide range of quality fiction, non-fiction and poetry, including classic and contemporary texts.

As well as reading for meaning, we actively encourage our children to read for pleasure and discuss and recommend texts to each other.

We read for pleasure daily and we really enjoy using our fantastic school library!
