At Christ the King Nursery, we believe the best learning happens through child-led play and exploration. Our broad and nurturing curriculum is carefully designed to support every child as they build the strong foundations needed for future learning and development. Leading our provision is our experienced and dedicated Early Years team, headed by qualified EYFS teachers, who ensures that each child’s individual needs are met. Alongside our caring and skilled EYFS staff create a warm, stimulating environment where children can thrive, grow in confidence, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Our nursery classroom is a bright, open-plan space carefully designed with distinct curriculum areas that inspire curiosity and creativity. The environment is structured to support children in developing their own ideas and interests over time, with continuous provision that encourages independence—allowing them to freely choose and access the resources they need. Each day, children enjoy a wide variety of activities, including water and sand play, creative arts, early writing, and opportunities to explore books. A much-loved highlight of the week is our visit to the school library, where children can select their own books and then come together for a special story time, fostering a love of reading from the very beginning.

Our nursery children share a vibrant outdoor space with Reception, designed to support physical development alongside all seven areas of learning. Outdoors, children are encouraged to build friendships, develop confidence, and explore the world around them through a wide range of engaging resources and activities. We are fortunate to have extensive grounds, including a large school field and our very own Forest School area, which provide wonderful opportunities for adventure, discovery, and outdoor learning every week. These rich experiences help children grow in resilience, imagination, and curiosity while enjoying the freedom of the natural environment.

At our nursery, outdoor learning is at the heart of what we do. Every Wednesday, our children take part in Forest School, led by our Nursery Staff, where they explore, play, and learn in the natural environment. Once a month, they also enjoy additional sessions with our outdoor learning expert, Mr Parker, giving them even more opportunities to discover the world around them.

Come rain or shine, our children spend time outdoors—jumping in puddles, building dens, hunting for mini-beasts, and learning how to care for nature. These experiences help them to develop confidence, independence, resilience, and teamwork, while also sparking their natural curiosity and sense of wonder.

We believe that the skills learned in Forest School—problem-solving, cooperation, and creativity—stay with children for life and support their growth across all areas of learning. Parents love that their children come home full of stories, muddy boots, and big smiles after their adventures!

Catholic Life

At Christ the King Catholic School, we pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive community where every child is valued. Although rooted in our Catholic tradition, we warmly embrace children from all faith backgrounds—or no faith—celebrating the richness that diversity brings. Our strong pastoral care lies at the heart of school life: we know every child as an individual and nurture their spiritual, emotional, and academic growth. By fostering kindness, respect, and a sense of belonging, we ensure that every child feels safe, supported, and encouraged to achieve their full potential.
